Meet My Characters: Keith and Lindsey Sullivan

Meet My Characters: Keith and Lindsey Sullivan

Hello! Sorry I am a little late with this post! Today is going to be the last post, at least for awhile, in my Meet My Characters series. I will be introducing you to the Sulllivan parents, Keith and Lindsey!

About Keith and Lindsey:

Keith Alexander Sullivan met Lindsey Anne at church when he was in college. They fell in love and got married after Keith graduated from college. They both wanted a big family. They were devastated when they found out Lindsey would not be able to have any children, but a few years later, they decided to pursue foster care. Over the years, they fostered over 20 children, 4 of whom they ended up adopting. After adopting Kiara, they decided to take a break from foster care. Currently, Keith works as a manager for a construction company, and Lindsey stays at home full-time and homeschools the children.

Five Random Facts about Keith and Lindsey:

1. Lindsey worked as a bookkeeper for a small business full-time before marrying Keith.

2. Keith has a large family with many siblings, some of whom live in the area and visit often.

3. Lindsey is an only child.

4. Most of the children Keith and Lindsey have fostered had special needs, and they fostered children anywhere from newborns to age fourteen.

5. Keith and Lindsey both love travelling.

A Scene with Keith and Lindsey:

WARNING: There are some mild spoilers in this passage!!

Meanwhile, down the hall, Mrs. Sullivan was struggling with many of the same questions and fears. She thought for sure that God had been telling her and Mr. Sullivan that their family was complete; it felt so right, so perfect, when they had adopted Kiara, and it felt like their family was meant to stay that way. They were going to be done with foster care and devote their time to the four children God had blessed them with. It was time to focus on their small family. Had she heard God’s calling wrong?

She tossed and turned as she pondered these questions. Mr. Sullivan started to stir, then he sat up groggily. “Are you okay, Lindsay?” he asked.

“I can’t get my mind off of Peter. I was so sure that God was calling us to be done fostering. Was I wrong, Keith?”

“I don’t think you were wrong, Lindsay. At that point, at least, we were called to be done. But maybe God is asking us now to open our hearts to the possibility of fostering again. Maybe He is calling us to open our home again. We need to keep praying.”

“I have been,” Lindsay sighed. “And I still have no idea what to say.  I just don’t feel ready to bring another child into our home on such short notice, let alone a deaf child. How can I parent a child I can’t even communicate with? But this situation definitely seems like a ‘God thing.’ Circumstances have just worked out too perfectly. Why is discerning God’s will so hard? Sometimes I just wish God would tell me exactly what He wants.”

Mr. Sullivan laughed. “Don’t we all wish that?” He sobered as he said, “How about we take some time to pray together right now? I don’t know that either of us will sleep well until we reach a decision, or at least find some peace about our indecision.”

Mrs. Sullivan nodded wearily. “I would like that.”

“Kneel?” Mr. Sullivan asked.

“That would be perfect.” The Sullivan parents got up and knelt next to each other by the side of the bed. Mrs. Sullivan rested her head on her husband’s shoulder as they closed their eyes and began to pray.
