I love stories, whether they be in books, movies, radio dramas, TV shows, song lyrics, whatever. Fiction, nonfiction, historical, contemporary, drama, slice-of-life–I enjoy a little bit of everything. However, there is one story that is greater than any other story ever written, and that is the story of the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The best part of this story is that it is 100% true, and it tells us how we can find eternal life through Jesus!

First, there are two facts that we must establish. The first one is that God is holy. That means that He is perfect and has never sinned. The second is that all humans are sinners. Ever since Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, every person born–including you and me–has a sinful nature. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

When we sin, we are sinning against our holy God. Our sins have consequences. The first half of Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin are death.” Our sin separates us from God and His holiness, and in the end, it leads to eternal death in hell.

But, wait! The verse doesn’t end there. The next part of Romans 6:23 says, “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, and unjustly suffered and died on the cross. Why would He do this? He paid the price of death so that we wouldn’t have to! Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus died on the cross so that, if we trust in Him, we can spend our eternity in Heaven with Him.

How can we accept this free gift? Well, like the verse says, it is a free gift. There is nothing you can do to earn it. Ephesians 2:8,9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Salvation from our sins comes through faith in Christ’s work on the cross. When we accept Jesus, we accept there is nothing we can do to earn salvation, but it is only through Jesus who paid the penalty for our sins on the cross. To accept this gift, all you must do is humbly acknowledge that we trust in Christ’s work on the cross, repent of your sins, and ask for His forgiveness. Repenting means being genuinely sorry for the sins you have committed against God, turning away from your old lifestyle and turning towards God.

Who is this gift for? Anyone! Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Won’t you repent of your sins and accept Jesus’ gift today?

Getting saved is the best decision I have ever made in my life. I grew up in church, and I made the decision to give my life to Jesus around the age of 5 or 6. While my testimony isn’t anything dramatic, I am grateful for the fact that Jesus died for my sins and I can rest knowing I will spend eternity with Him. Living for Jesus isn’t always easy, but it comes with so much peace, hope, and joy, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
