My Review:

My Overall Thoughts: After participating in the launch party for Remember My Royalty, I was very eager to read it, and the story did not disappoint! I enjoyed the blend of history, an engaging storyline and characters, and Christian themes. This would be a great book for young Christian readers who enjoy historical fiction!

Plot: The plot of this story was well-developed and engaging. It was interesting reading a story about the Alamo as that is not a topic I have seen a lot of books about, and I didn’t know that much about it personally.

Characters: I really enjoyed the characters in this book! The main characters, Ealasaid, Catriona, and Hamish, were all relatable in their own ways, and they all had distinct personalities and character arcs. I especially related to Elasaid and her quiet nature, but I also appreciated Catriona and her spunky personality and the growth of Hamish’s character and the strength he showed later in the story. I also enjoyed the side characters, especially how many historical figures were included in the story. That was a neat way to learn more about the history of the Alamo!

Writing Style: I liked the writing style! It was a little slower than I prefer sometimes, as the book is quite long, but, overall, there was a good blend between description and action, and it helped me understand the characters and the setting well.

Themes: I appreciated the main theme of the book as the main characters sought to remember and live in light of their family name and Christ’s name. I also liked how there were other lessons that the children learned throughout the story, such as forgiving others, doing our best for the Lord, sharing the Gospel, and the gift of salvation.

Content Notes: There are some descriptions of battles, but nothing graphic. There are some bad attitudes, unkindness, teenagers stealing from a shop, and other similar things, but all are clearly portrayed as negative, and there are consequences for those actions.

I would definitely recommend this book to middle grade readers, those who enjoy middle grade, or who just want to learn more about the Alamo! Have you read Remember My Royalty? If you have, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments! I will be back again next Monday!
